FAQ's

Q: How easily accessible is Hearts of Palm?

Traveling by air, the Hearts of Palm mission site is located 14 miles from the Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) and about 60 miles from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL).  For ground transportation upon arrival, car/van rentals are available from rental agencies at each airport. When traveling by car, Hearts of Palm is easily accessible from Interstate-95 or Florida’s turnpike. 

Q: What is the age requirement for participants?

Students entering 6th grade and up.  We trust the judgment of the leaders to determine if the youth is ready to attend.

Q: Is there a minimum number of participants?

There is no minimum. Small and large groups are welcome.  

Q: What are the chaperone requirements?

HOP staff is not housed with your participants.  Male and female chaperones are required for your male & female participants.

Q: What is the adult-to-youth ratio?

We recommend six youth to one adult chaperone.

Q: Do the chaperones need to sign the Release of Liability form?

Yes, every participant (including adults) must complete the Release of Liability form.  Please see the Forms page for details and other required forms.

Q: What about medical insurance?

Every participant is required to have proof of current medical insurance.  This information should be provided on the Medical Information and Authorization form. Please review the Forms page for details. Every participant MUST have an up-to-date tetanus shot.

Q: Where is the nearest medical facility?

Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center is directly across the street from Hearts of Palm, at 3360 Burns Road, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410. The center is a 199-bed acute care hospital with a 24-hour emergency care center.

Q:  How will individual group time be scheduled and planned?

We know that each group leader has a unique perspective on the goals and needs of his or her group. Therefore, we offer multiple options to help you utilize your group time to the fullest.  We’re happy to ensure that your time is just that, YOURS!  Or we’re happy to help you plan your group activities, free time, devotions, and debriefing so that you can focus on building important relationships with your group.  We also have a turn-key planned week if you prefer.  For more information, please call our director, Karen Cook, at 561-623-2601.

Q: How much money should youth bring?

We have a canteen stocked with drinks and snacks available for purchase. The rest is up to the youth leaders to determine how much money is needed for free time activities.

Q: How long is the work week?

Our work week is scheduled for 4 days, Monday through Thursday, at various ministry work sites.

Q: Are there local attractions that we can plan either before or after our work week?

Yes! We are located four miles from crystal clear ocean waters. Palm Beach County is also home to Lion Country Safari, Rapids Water Park, the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and wonderful State Parks offering a variety of activities. Disney World and all of the Orlando attractions are only a short drive away.
